Reflection Guest Artist - Mr Arvin (Photographer)
Mr Arvin spoke to us and shared his photographs on Monday 21st October. Mr Arvin talked about pure photography. Mr Arvin loves lines, shapes and circles. He loves having interesting lines and shapes in his pictures.
I really liked the picture of a lady coming into the light that Mr Arvin took. Mr Arvin said that he waited a long time for his neighbor to step out of her apartment into the light, when she stepped out he quickly snapped the photo. Mr Arvin used an old fashioned camera. He takes only 36 pictures and then gets them developed at a photo shop. He cannot see what he has taken until the picture comes back from the shop.
Mr Arvin likes to take ‘pure photos’ . He waits until the picture he has in his mind is happening in real life. He catches moments. He does not stage or set up pictures.
Function: The way artists express themselves (how - media)
Mr Arvin expressed himself using photography. He chose to take this picture because it is interesting and has good shapes or colors.
Connection: Interrelationship between society and the artist
Mr Arvin was influenced by what he sees around him on the earth. He was interested in people, animals, vehicles, anything that is around him.
Mr Arvin told this story when he was describing the photograph. He described standing in the doorway waiting for the lady to come out. He liked the light and knew she often came out at this time each day. He waited for about an hour, holding the camera ready. Finally she came out he snapped a picture. She was shocked and surprised. She was not expecting someone to be waiting there.
Perspective: Personal response to the arts
The artwork makes me feel sad because the lady looks like she is a bit scared. The artwork also makes makes me feel a bit worried about the lady. Because she does not seem to have much money and seems quite poor. I wonder if she is okay? I wonder who she lives with? I wonder what she is doing now?
Connection: Personal connections to artwork
The artwork makes me think of people that are poor in Cambodia and live on the streets. I am lucky that I have a home and a family.
