Reading Comprehension - Organizations
There are many organizations who work to create a more peaceful world.
1. Find an organization that tries to stop injustice and works to create a more peaceful world.
2. Place this organization name and web link on the class Google slide show (it has been shared with you). Do not choose one that has already been added to the presentation
3. On the Google Presentation Summarize your chosen organization.
Include: when they were established, what their goal is and a summary of some of their achievements. See example by Ms Alison
4. Be prepared to share this with the class and why you believe this organization works to create a more peaceful world.

Solve the problems and bring your working out to class. We will share solutions and strategies on Friday.

Math Word problems

Select 4 + fraction word problems from the grid.

Solve the problems and bring your working out to class. We will share solutions and strategies on Friday.



Pam walks 7/8 of a mile to school. Paul walks 3/8 of a mile to school. How much farther does Pam walk than Paul?
A cake recipe requires 3/5 cup of sugar for the frosting and 1/5 cup of sugar for the cake. How much sugar is that altogether?
After a party, 5/8 of the cake is left over. That night, big brother eats 2/8 of the cake. How much is left over after that?
1/10 of the M&M’s in a bag are red and 3/10 are blue. What fraction of all the M&M’s are red and blue?
You give 2/7 of a pan of brownies to Susan and 1/7 of the pan of brownies to Patrick. How much of the pan of brownies did you give away? How much do you have left?
You go out for a long walk. You walk 3/4 km and then sit down to take a rest. Then you walk 1/4 of a km. How far did you walk altogether?
Your class had a pizza party. 3/8 of one pizza was left over, and 4/8 of another pizza was left over. You put them both into one box. How much pizza do you have altogether?
A school wants to make a new playground by cleaning up an abandoned lot that is shaped like a rectangle. They give the job of planning the playground to a group of students. The students decide to use 3/8 of the playground for a basketball court and 4/8 of the playground for a soccer field. How much is left for the swings and play equipment?

Bring the Peace plan, Game, Art or Perfect world writing to class on Friday.
Be ready to share this with your peers.

Think of a creative way you can help to make the world a more peaceful place.

  • Write your idea as a goal supported by 3 steps you will follow to achieve it

Design a team game based on promoting peace
  • Write down the objectives and rules of the game.
  • Practice the game at home
  • You will share you game with the class
Peace Art
Create a piece of art using any medium. Consider some of the following questions
  • What color is peace?
  • What kind of weather is peace?
  • What day of the week is peace?
  • What leisure activities create a feeling of peace?
A perfect world
Write 3 paragraphs describing the type of world you would like to live in.

  • How would it be different from today’s world?
  • Give reasons for the choices you have made.
