Discussions about other types of conflict

Today we started discussing religious and racial conflict.

We looked at examples of conflict that is happening in the news now as well as conflict that has occurred throughout history.

We looked at a short clip about the War in Syria that has been going on for 4 years.
We also discussed the refugees - People trying to flee the violence

How do Syrian children explain the war

We also watched a small introduction to the movie from the book 'Boy in the striped pajamas' by John Boyne. We discussed WWII and how millions of Jewish people were killed.

The book - Boy in the striped Pajamas, is written from the perspective of a ten year old German boy - Bruno. Bruno's father is a German SS Commander and runs a Prisoner of war camp. Bruno lives near the camp but does not understand what is happening next door. He meets a friend - a Jewish boy who is inside the camp.

Lastly we watched a few clips from the movie Gandhi. The students saw scenes where Gandhi spoke to crowds and the British about Indian people having self rule and being treated fairly. Gandhi fought for the rights of the Indian people and wanted all religions to unite to create peace.
