Making sense of subtraction

We worked in small groups solving large number subtraction problems today.

The students used base ten blocks to help visualize the first number.
They used place value charts and adjusted the blocks so it would be easy to subtract.

The students shared their strategy for solving the problem to the class.

We also used reviewed estimation and talked about all the ways we estimate in everyday life.
