Mr Puy spoke to the Grade 4 students explained to the newcomers the meaning of Pchum = Gathering & Ben = Ball of rice.
He explained that the first 14 days of October are very important. These are called Kan Ben or Dah Ben. Families visit the pagoda during the early morning and take small balls of rice. they circle the temple three times and scatter the rice.
Pchum Ben is the 15th day. Families visit Pagoda's together and offer food to their ancestors. They pay their respects to their relatives from 7 generations.
Offering food is a meritorious act and is one of the oldest and most common rituals in Buddhism.
