REMOVING THE RUBBLE FROM A STORY TO CREATE A POEM
Students went back to stories they had written in the past month.
They selected two and ‘removed the rubble’ - highlighted the rich, descriptive language.
When they put it together they had created a poem.
After completing this activity with two pieces of writing the students discussed ….
What is a poem?
A poem is a descriptive story
A poem is all the best bits put together
A poem can … but does not have to rhyme
A poem is interesting and makes you think.
Sometimes poems have rhythm.
Sometimes there is one word on a line, sometimes more.
We can write poems about everything.
