We will be writing reports and news reports.
We started by reading a news report 'Terrifying Tooth' together.
We identified the key features in each section of the News Report.
We then watched a News Broadcast and found similar features.
We started working on a checklist which includes all the features we will use when writing news reports in the coming weeks.
Some features we discussed ....
- Catchy title with larger font
- Summary sentence - captures the main story
- Who, What, Where, When, Why
- Quotes from Eyewitnesses or Experts - Using "Speech marks"
- Not opinions - facts that say what they saw or explain, show evidence
- Past tense - describing an event that happened
- Technical words (ie cartilage, fossils)
- Easy to understand - ie show comparison to size of another object so understand how long.
