NO SCHOOL - Pchum Ben

Next week school will be closed.

Enjoy spending time with your family and friends, participating in celebrations and relaxing.

There is no homework set for the holiday, but I do hope you will all read at least one good book during your week at home or abroad.

If you do not have a book at home please borrow one from the library or access Ebooks via Destiny Quest (step by step instructions on the class blog).

Have fun and stay safe.
I will see you back at school on Monday 3rd October.

Thank you to Vorleak's dad - our guest speaker

Mr Hun Manet spoke to the Grade 4 students yesterday about his role as a Military leader.

We listened carefully to what he spoke about and we returned to class we remembered 21 things he said (one per student).
  • Mr Manet is a military leader
  • Mr Manet joined the military when he was young. He had to shave his head & could only say 4 things to his commanders
  • Yes sir, No sir, I do not understand Sir, No excuse sir.
  • Leaders need to motivate and encourage people
  • Communication skills are important
  • A leader needs to be committed and keep going even if it is hard
  • A leader needs to be confident in themselves
  • A good leader needs to stay calm and have a plan.
  • A good leader needs to be accountable for their actions
  • A good leader needs to take responsibility for their mistakes.
  • When you make a mistake you need to 'own it', learn from it and move forward.
  • Honesty and integrity are very important
  • You need to trust your leader
  • Leaders are charismatic and energetic.
  • You need to be an enabler so you build confidence and abilities.
  • He talked about the resilience of grass. Never gives up, keeps growing even after frost and snow.
  • Leadership skills can be learned and practiced.
  • Everyone can be a leader in different ways.

Sharing our persuasive writing and giving feedback

The Grade 4 students read their favorite persuasive writing piece to one of their peers.
They read with expression and then received verbal, positive feedback about their writing.
What we liked about your writing ...

Tomorrow the students will be writing in response to a picture. Friday the students  will be writing a persuasive piece.

More leader presentations

Thank you to all the students for being risk takers and presenting as the leader they researched today.
I was very proud of the way the students spoke with authority and confidence.
Students have made a movie of their presentation and will post on their blog later this week.

Leadership Speeches

Thank you to the brave students who volunteered to present their speech today.

We listened to speeches by Queen Elizabeth, Margaret Mead, Leonardo da Vinci, Napoleon, Florence Nightingale, Robin Hood and Cleopatra. Eemil also presented a Google slide presentation about Martin Luther King.

Each speech included information about their leaders goals, how they changed the world, challenges they faced and attributes that helped them be successful leaders.

We will have many more speeches tomorrow.

The students are filming themselves speak and will post their speech and video of them presenting to the class on their own blog.

Reminder - wear blue tomorrow WEDNESDAY

Wednesday is International Peace One day.

We will all wear BLUE and WHITE clothing.
From 11.00 am until 2.30 we will work with Grade 8 students on projects and activities.

We DO NOT have PE. Students DO NOT need to bring or wear their PE uniform.
