Math - Geometry puzzle (try this word problem after Monday's class)

Charlie was at a party. He asked if there was more soda.
The host said there was more in the basement.
Charlie offered to collect the soda even though there were no lights in the basement.
Charlie listened to the instructions so he could find the soda in the dark.

  1. Follow these on the grid paper - each step is one grid square (show me your working out)

  • Go to the bottom of the stairs
  • Take 5 steps perpendicular to the bottom step
  • Turn right and take 23 steps forward
  • Turn 90 o to your left and take 12 steps directly in front of you.
  • Turn 90 and take another 3 steps
  • Make a 90 o turn to your left and go 14 steps.
  • Turn right and go 15 steps and the soda will be at your feet.

  1. Charlie thought for a moment and said he could do it but could think of a much shorter way.
Use your grid diagram to work out what the easier instructions are.
