Today we did a group challenge task.
The students worked in groups of four and had 18 minutes to build the tallest, free standing structure using limited supplies. One of the items in their basket was a single marshmallow - which had to be at the top of the structure.
It was very interesting watching the mixed groups, seeing how the students communicated and tried to come up with a solution to a tricky problem.
Some structures fell over, others broke and had to be quickly repaired in the final minute.
After we measured the standing structures we had a discussion about the characteristics of an effective team. Some of the students observations are below.
An effective team / group ....
- includes everybody
- listen to each other
- appreciates each others work
- is tolerant
- is creative
- appreciates each others strengths
- all try their best
- is curious and principled
- help each other
- split up the jobs
- trust each other
What a clever class we have this year!
