The Grade 4 students wrote news articles recently with Ms Marcelle's support.
We looked at an example and then wrote an article about a word we are using in our Belief system unit. This helped the students to understand the format for writing a news report and get a better understanding of the word.

TOLERANCE
ISPP, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Tolerance walked through the front door on Monday morning. She was smiling and talking to others about their religions.
Tolerance asked questions to understand some practices and listened carefully. She wanted to understand. Tolerance believes that everyone is equal and has a right to have different ideas.
Tolerance would never be racist, judge others or be unfair. Tolerance is accepting, patient and kind. Ms Paula stated that “Tolerance is an excellent role model for our younger students”.
When asked to explain her behavior Tolerance said “It is just my way of understanding others. I want to be friends with everyone”.

REFLECTION

Reflection strolled into school one day thinking about the book he read last night. Some people made fun of him because he liked to take notes to review them afterwards, even when not required by the teacher.
Reflection stopped to think about what the teacher was saying in class and realized he was doing the right thing. He did not need to worry about what others were saying.
His teacher Ms Anita said “Reflection you are a great student who always thinks about what you are doing. Well done”.
When asked to explain his behavior Reflection said “I like to think again and check my work. It is important if you want to improve”.

INFLUENCE

Influence was walking to school on Tuesday morning when he saw a Kindergarten student running onto the road.
Influenced grabbed the little boys hand and said “Stop, You must be careful”. Influence explained that the road is busy and we must cross carefully. The little boy listened and said “Thank you for helping me understand”. They crossed the road together.
Influence likes to have an impact. Influence leads by example. “It is important to be a role model for younger students” said Ms Paula the Elementary Principal. “Influence helps us to change behaviors in the school”.
Influence will not be weak and let bad things happen. Influence is a positive force.
When asked to explain his behavior Influence said “I like making changes. I want to help the younger students learn to behave safely and make good decisions”.

CONNECTION
ISPP, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Connection walked slowly into school because she loved meeting people. She had been this way since she was a baby. She has an older brother named Linkage. Connection loves to make friends, bonds and cooperate with others.
Connection entered the hallway and made 5 new friends. She asked other Grade 4 students to join her as she walked to class.
During reading Connection thought about the character in her book. She noticed that they had many things in common. They both loved fishing and running.
Her teacher Ms Sausage stated “Cooperation is a wonderful student. She likes to put together ideas and work in groups.
When asked to explain her behavior Connection said “ I like to make everyone connect again. We are all parts of a great big jigsaw puzzle”.

RESPECT
ISPP, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Respect walked gently through the entry door at ISPP on a Wednesday morning. She was greeting everyone by saying Good Morning in all the different languages she knew.
Respect asked questions to understand some practices. She was trying to understand how others thought.
Respect sat quietly in the classroom and listened to her teacher. She likes to show her appreciation and loves to learn.
Her teacher Ms Florence stated “Respect gets along with everyone in the school. She is a fabulous student”.

RESPECT

Reflection walked softly through the hallway towards her classroom. He was thinking about what to write in his journal as he walked.
A friend stopped him to ask him a question about how to write a reflection. Reflection replied “It is simple. First you think about what you have experienced and brainstorm key words. Then you write about what you enjoyed, learned and can do better next time”.
Reflections teacher Ms Alison said “Reflection is a student that really focuses in class and thinks about how she can improve”.
When asked to explain his thinking Reflection said “I just want to be a good student and learn from my mistakes”

CONNECTION

Connection was walking through the front door on a Monday morning. Connection stopped to talk to a friend. Connection asked if he could join his group of friends. His friend said yes and Connection was very excited.
Connection loves to join groups and networks. He enjoys cooperating with other people.
Connections football coach said “Connection is great at communicating and intercepting. He is an excellent member of the team”.
When asked to explain his behavior Connection said “I want to be friends and have experiences with everybody”.

RESPECT
ISPP, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Respect walked slowly through the doors with her friends Pride and Dignity. She saw a boy complaining. He was worried about his broken leg. Respect turned around and listened to the boy. She tried to understand his feelings and helped him on his way to class.
As Respect entered the classroom she heard a student talk about Hinduism. Respect appreciated her classmate sharing her celebrations. She didn’t judge. Instead she listened and asked questions so she would understand.
Ms Paula, the Elementary Principle said “Respect is such a thoughtful Grade 4 student”.

CONNECTION

Connection opened the park gate and joined up with some students . He held up his iPhone and chatted by skype to Empathy and Tolerance who live in other countries.
Later that day he hooked up with his best friends network and wifi.
His best friends network stated “Connection communicates a lot and never disconnects. He’s always online”. Connection said “I would like to be friends with everyone”.
Connection does not divide the class. Connection tries very hard to bring people together.
