Rabbi Butman at the Synagogue

Grade 4 students from ISPP went to a synagogue to learn more intresting facts about Judaism. Grade 4 went on the 24th January.
Rabbi Butman arrived at Phnom Penh,Cambodia in 2009. Rabbi Butman challenge was opening Chabad house for the Jewish people here in Cambodia. He said he began translating the whole Torah into Khmer. He also told us that it took one whole year to make a Torah. A Torah is a sacred writing about Jewish beliefs.
There are 10 commandment that Jews have to follow. These are the same commandments that Christians follow. Jewish was the first religion that believe in One god.
Rabbi Butman told the students that the jews were enslaved in Egypt. Jews was also Persecuted for many of year by the Romans.
A student on the trip Monyroat said “ It was an interesting morning”. He liked seeing the replica version of the Torah.
When asked why they set up a synagogue in Cambodia where the Jewish population was so small Rabbi Butman said “ No quantity of Jews are too small”.

Visit to Rabbi Butman Chabad house synagogue.
Sixty-four Grade 4 students from ISPP met with Rabbi Butman.
Why? To learn about Judaism beliefs, celebrations and Jewish practices.
“We learned a lot about Judaism at the synagogue - Chabad House on Tuesday 24th January” said DaHee.
“We found out that Jewish people do not eat pork and shellfish, and they don’t eat meat and dairy at the same time”. Said Keith.
The students also learned about Jewish celebrations including Passover , Hanukkah , Yom Kippur , Bat Mitzvah and Bar Mitzvah.
Jihwan , a grade 4 student said that “ It was very interesting to learn about all of the Jewish beliefs.
The Grade 4 students will continue exploring different Belief systems in the coming weeks.

The Trip To The Synagogue
Grade 4 students went on a field trip to a synagogue to learn interesting facts about Judaism.
The students of grade 4 met Rabbi Butman at his synagogue. Rabbi Butman talk to us about how God created the world. He also talked to us about God telling the first person about the 10 commandments. He told us about us how god was not happy with the world and flooded the world. He told us that Noah and his people were left and they became the chosen ones.
He also talked about how a man named Moses led Judaist out of Egypt and got the 10 commandments directly from God.
He also showed us a replica of the Torah, which is a big scroll that was originally is made of sheepskin and takes a year to make. It is written by hand. The Torah is very precious and is kept in an Arc in the Synagogue. It is used during prayers.
Rabbi Butman translated the Torah into Khmer for Khmer people.
