Are you interested in the Angkor run in December?

A message from Mr Ben - re Grade 4/5 trip to Siem Reap in December

Dear Parents

I am writing to you to inform you about the Grade 4 and Grade 5 Angkor Wat Fun Run and Bike Race Trip.

The outline program for the trip is indicated below:
Friday 2 December - depart ISPP on hired bus, swimming at hotel in Siem Reap
Saturday 3 December - morning - 17km/37 km bike race; afternoon - trip to temples and swimming at hotel
Sunday 4 December - 3km fun run; hired bus back to ISPP, returning late afternoon

The trip will be lead by me and Andy Munn, and assisted by several other staff members, whom we are in the process of confirming.

At this stage, please carefully consider whether your child can commit to the training program and shows the maturity and behaviour standards required for residential trips. We will be setting up a training schedule that will run in the months leading up to the trip. This will involve lunchtime running activities at school on Fridays.
Students who are participating in the bike race will need to commit to three early morning Sunday rides. These students will need to have access to a roadworthy bike and a cycle helmet. The dates for these sessions are;
Sunday 18 September
Sunday 9 October
Sunday 6 November

We are in the process of negotiating access to a section of Hun Sen Boulevard, just to the south of ISPP, which is at present closed to traffic, for the students to cycle on. For these sessions students will meet at the ISPP carpark at 8am and will cycle for one hour. Parents are welcome to come and cycle with the students during these sessions.

The hotel where we will be staying, Empress Angkor, is located about 2km out of the town centre and has a swimming pool and outdoor space. Students will be staying in shared rooms (in a group of two or three), which have ensuite bathrooms. We will be travelling on buses with seat belts, that we will hire for the duration of the trip.

The trip should cost approximately $200 and will include accommodation, food and water, transport and entry fee for the 3km run.

There will be an additional cost for the students who wish to participate in the bike race (approximately $65), which covers the entry fees to the bike race and transportation of bikes to Siem Reap. The exact amount will be confirmed once we have a clear idea of number of students participating.

Please make a payment of $50 to the Finance Office, which acts as a non-returnable deposit before Wednesday 21st September. At the same time as you make this payment we ask that you please hand in a copy of your child’s passport.

Spending money for the trip is not necessary, but $20 is the maximum allowed and your child will be responsible for that money.

ISPP policy requires that each child has an up-to-date medical travel insurance for this trip. If you do not have insurance, the school can arrange for this to be purchased for the weekend (approx. $15).

There will be a parents information meeting on Friday 2 September at 7.35am, in the Multi Purpose Room MPR (ground floor of Secondary Building B, opposite the cafeteria) where we will distribute more detailed information and answer your questions.

Information will also be posted on the Elementary PE Blog
(www.isppelementarype.blogspot.com/p/angkor-wat-trip.html).

If you would like you child to participate in this trip, please complete the permission form If you are having trouble accessing the form the address is https://goo.gl/Vob6DA or email me for a copy. The permission form covers both the training sessions and the actual trip, and as such please can you complete it by Friday the 16th of September.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at school.
Yours sincerely,
Ben Wiggins (benwiggins@ispp.edu.kh)
