What is Gravitational energy?

We talked about Gravitational energy today and watched a Bill Nye clip to help clarify.
We also did a simple experiment using a ramp and an aluminum can.

The student all agreed with the hypothesis that the can will roll faster when the ramp is set at a higher distance. We completed the experiment and found the can rolled to the ground in 1.15 seconds when the ramp was set at 15cm off the ground. When we adjusted the height of the ramp to 35 cm off the ground the can rolled to the ground even faster - 0.68 seconds.

The students then discussed and tried to explain their findings. They went back to the definition we created yesterday ... Gravitational energy is the energy stored in the height of an object.
