Reading assessments and setting goals
The students have all been completing reading assessments this week. They may mention DRA testing at home. The students read a short passage to me and made predictions about what they think will happen in the story. They then read the rest of the story and wrote a summary and answered comprehension questions.
I will have a conference with all the students next week and discuss their strengths and challenges as readers. They will use the information gathered from the DRA to set reading goals for the year.
We will continue to work on the reading strategies shown below in class.

Dance workshop
Today the students listened to Mr Stephen Bimson talk about dance and how we can use our bodies to tell a story, send a message and make people think.
Classically trained Mr Stephen said that artists ask questions about what is going on in their world. They wonder ..
Mr Stephen then did warm up activities with the students and a mini workshop showing how you can use everyday objects in dance movements to tell a story.
He is currently working on a project where he is expressing his concern about the way people are disconnected and not speaking face to face & also the rubbish and pollution in Phnom Penh.
The students used a plastic bag to make sounds and create movements to communicate with another person only using body language.
If your child enjoyed the dance workshop they may be interested in Stephens Central school of Ballet - see the link below.

Field trip to Asia Foundation
Today we went to the Asian Foundation.
We looked at paintings by the artist who is current exhibiting his work - Phe Sophon and had the opportunity to ask him questions about being an artist and the art he has produced.
If you are interested in seeing his work it is on display at theAsia foundation until December.
Here is the link to the Asia foundation
This is an article written about Phe Sophon in Cambodia Daily ...
The students responded to Phe Sophon's art, and thought about his motivation and messages within his paintings.
The students also thought about important aspects of Cambodia they would like to incorporate in a piece of art. The sketched different images and started planning a piece they will work on in the coming weeks.
