Persuasive arguments - Debating

The Grade 4 students randomly picked a note when they arrived in the classroom this morning.
half of the students had a piece of paper saying Video games were good for children and half had a slip saying that video games were not good for children. Some of them did not agree with the side they were on but still had to think of good arguments.

The students brainstormed in small groups and created arguments to back up their statement. Each group selected 2 students to speak and share their arguments.

We presented our ideas in a simple debate format. We had 4 speakers arguing that video games were good and 4 speakers arguing that video games are not good for children.

Thank you to Tasha, JaeYong, Florence and Jihwan for your very convincing arguments showing us why video games are GOOD for children.

  • Educational
  • Helps us to be balanced
  • Encourage creativity
  • Helps us manage and minimize stress

Thank you also to Eemil, DaHee, Angelica and Pheakdey for sharing strong arguments for why video games are NOT GOOD for children.

  • Makes us unbalanced and unhealthy
  • Can make children violent and learn bad behavior
  • Bad for our body - eyes and posture (back)
  • Expensive and a waste of money

All the speaker were confident and spoke clearly and persuasively.

We will continue to have debates in the coming weeks and all students will have the opportunity to present to the class.
