The next time you eat chocolate, savor it. Because the world’s most famous chocolate makers Mars Inc says that the decadent treat will soon be in short supply. The problem is that chocolate is being consumed faster than we can produce it. In 2013 70,000 tons of chocolate was consumed. Experts say this is the worst streak of supply, demand imbalance they have experienced in 50 years.
There is a large reduction of supply because of a drought. More than 70% of the world’s cocoa beans come from Africa. A worldwide disease called Frosty pod is also destroying 405 of cocoa bean crops. Most farmers have switched to more profitable and easy crops like corn.
Meanwhile the world is getting hungrier for chocolate.

The next time you eat chocolate remember to savor it. The world’s largest chocolate manufacturer Mars says they are running low on supplies because our demand for chocolate is higher than the speed farmers can produce it. Supply is low and demand is high.
In 2013 experts announced that there was the worst imbalance in demand and supply in more than 50 years.
