Changing fractions - Mixed to improper

This week we have been working with Mixed numbers ... a whole number and a fraction.
Example 1 whole number and 3/4
We have also been working with Improper fractions ... where the number on top is higher than the number on the bottom. Example 7/3.

Remember the top is the numerator and the bottom number is the denominator.
Yesterday we changed mixed numbers to pictures and Improper fractions.

Today we reversed the process and changed Improper fractions to pictures and then worked out what the Mixed number is.

Example ... 11/4 is the same as 2 and 3/4.

Most students were very successful at changing numbers using pictures to help them.

Students also learned how to multiply fractions. Here is a short clip they can watch if they forgot what we did in class.
