Writing poetry with Ms Marcelle

Today we worked with Ms Marcelle brainstorming words related to Phnom Penh.
We though of adjectives, nouns and compared Phnom Penh to a person.
Once we had a board full of rich words we had a try at writing a poem about Phnom Penh using a scaffold.

  1. If Phnom Penh was a person, who would it be? Example: Recycler of anything, organizer of traffic, creator of havoc...
  2. Repeat above.
  3. Keeper of…. (Give a thing, e.g beautiful temples)
  4. Three descriptive words about Phnom Penh
  5. City of… body part (e.g strong shoulders)
  6. Player with….. (a thing, e.g busy traffic)
  7. …… (descriptive word) as a……. (thing/person) E.g. Kind as a friendly giant.
  8. Phnom Penh you are……..to me.
  9. Repeat two times.
Here is an example of one poem that was written in class.
The students will post their poem on their blog in the lab this week.

Phnom Penh
A collector and creator of havoc.
A monk with graceful movements and saffron robes.
Keeper of fragrant, sizzling street food.
Busy, hazy, forgiving.
City of smiling faces.
Player with bustling markets and flowing rivers.
As messy as a mischievous toddler.
Phnom Penh you are home to me.
Phnom Penh you are a friend.
