Consolidating our understanding of Measurement

We have been practicing calculating the perimeter and area of regular and irregular shapes.
We measured the area of two shapes and put them together adding the areas of both to get the area of the new irregular shape. We measured around the outside of the irregular shape to calculate the perimeter.

We have also made 3D cubes and filled them with unit cubes. We added the unit cubes to calculate the volume - how much we can fit inside. We then tried a shortcut to check our answers. We multiplied length X Height X Width and worked out the volume.

Most students are gaining confidence measuring perimeter and area. Volume is a bit trickier but students can measure volume using unit cubes and have a good conceptual understanding of what volume is.
