We had three guests from Friends International visit today. James - Communication Coordinator, Lisa - Product designer and Kanya - Marketing.
James told us about Friends International. It started 22 years ago.
Friends-International supports children and young people and families who were living and working on the streets of the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh.
Friends International is now worldwide with branches in many countries.
We learned about the Social Business model they follow and learned that 20% of the revenue for Friends projects comes from their Social Businesses. They need additional funding to run all the programs they are involved in.
Lisa showed the students how products are made and how making paper bead necklaces can help support a family so the children can stop working and go to school. Lisa also showed the students how a wallet is made from start to finish and how purchasing products from Friends ‘n’ stuff or dining at their restaurants can help.
The students thought of different products you could make using paper beads as a resource. I wonder if any students will review their product plan tomorrow and start making paper beaded products?
