We had a wonderful morning at the office speaking to staff and finding out about the Company structure, Sales and Marketing Department and Operations department.
We found out about the entire process from manufacture to delivery to shops in Cambodia. We considered Logistics, Transport, Marketing and Sales.
We then went out to the Warehouse and saw how the company organize the storage and delivery of their product.
The students reflected on what they learned, liked and wondered about when we returned to school ...
- I learned Mega Lifescience is in 29 countries.
- I learned that a lot of people work for MEGA We Care. There are more than 6000 employees in the world. Kanika’s dad started in Cambodia with one other manager.
- Mr Narendra Kumar is the Country Manager. He is a trained Chemist and has an MBA. He has worked for many companies.
- They have an office where they do all the Sales and Marketing and a Warehouse where they keep the product safe. They control the temperature at the Warehouse so the products do not go off and have a REALLY cold fridge for some products.
- Megalife sell to 15000 businesses in Cambodia. They sell to the Business and then the Business sells to the customer. It is called a Business to Business model (B2B).
- We spoke to a lady in Marketing and she said it can take about a month or longer to make a TV commercial.
- I learn’t that there are actually 2 parts to the company - Megacare and Maxicare. Each part has a different job to do.
- I learned that it is important to refrigerate medicines. If they are transported and the temperature goes higher than 25 oC the medicine is ruined. The transport vans have alarms so this does not happen.
- I learned that many products are made and distributed by Mega Life. They store them at the warehouse in sections with letters of the alphabet.
- I learned that they use models for their advertising and sometimes a famous person because it makes people pay attention and they want to be like them so buy the product.
I liked …..
- I liked sitting in the conference room for the presentation, eating snacks and listening to Kanika’s dad talk.
- I like seeing all the countries around the world on a map that have Megalife.
- I loved the Warehouse. There were shelves up to the roof. It looked like a library.
- I liked how the office was set out. All the Marketing people were together and all the people in Sales were together. They all have a special thing they worked on but worked together as well.
- I liked watching the machine that lifts the boxes. They carry things without using ladders.
- I liked looking at the way the warehouse was organized. They broke everything into steps.
- I liked wearing the helmets and looking at the supplies.
- I liked that they were so organized and told us about all of their jobs.
- I liked wearing helmets and watching the staff pack products for orders and attach invoices.
I wonder ……
- I wonder how much people get paid at different levels. Mr Narendra said there were 6 levels of employees in their business. Is it a different amount of pay at each level?
- I wonder which colors are more popular? Bigger sellers?
- I wonder how what their biggest costs are and how much profit they make each day? Or week?
- I wonder who started this business? Mr Narendra said it started in 1983. I wonder how many people worked for the company then? Did it get bigger each year? Is it still getting bigger?
- I wonder if they own the land for the huge warehouse? Is it expensive to build a warehouse?
- I wonder where they get their ideas for new products?
- I wonder how many people work in the warehouse?
- I wonder how much stock was on the shelves at the warehouse?
- I wonder how often they get called for emergency pharmaceuticals? Mr Narendra said they extra medicine in case there is an emergency.
- I wonder how fast they can transport the products after they are ordered?
- I wonder how they transport the products that are stored in the super freezer with the special security code?
