We practiced being GOOD LISTENERS during Ms Esther's presentation.
When we returned to the class each student told the class a fact they remembered from the presentation. We wrote 21 interesting facts on the board.
Here are some of the facts / ideas from our class ...
- Trying, failing and doing better next time - how you learn.
- It is important to do something you are interested in / passionate about.
- Leaders need to take risks.
- Ms Esther thought being a leader was easy 'Telling people what to do" but then worked out there is much more to being a good leader.
- Leadership is continuous learning.
- Leaders learn from their mistakes so they can be better leaders.
- Leaders reflect
- Ms Esther worked for ILO for 13 years before she became a leader.
- Ms Esther has 40 people that work for her - under her on chart
- Ms Esther says she does not have to do all work. She asks people who work with her for opinions and advice.
- ILO works to help people have jobs that have safe conditions and fair pay.
- Sometimes factories are hot, dangerous and workers do not get paid enough.
- Sometimes workers are tired, hungry and can hurt themselves.
- Sometimes you need to say NO. You know what is best for you.
- What makes you have energy and forget time?
- What would you do if you were not afraid?
- Leaders need to trust themselves
- Ms Esther tries to create new leaders - Example of girl from factory.
- Can be hard / challenging - language and cultural differences.
- Ms Esther became a leader because she was good at her job, hardworking and got on with people.
