Editing and publishing persuasive writing

Students are editing and publishing their first attempts at persuasive writing this year.

They have planned using the planning template, edited their writing and are now transferring to G docs and their blog.

You will be able to read the arguments students have created by the end of the week. You can find your child's blog via the STUDENT BLOGS tab at the top of the class blog.

Here are two examples of students persuasive writing - opposing arguments.

Children should not be bored in 2016 by Otis

I believe children should not be dull and get bored in 2016. We have toys, technology and our own creativity to keep us busy.

Children should not be bored because they have so many games and options of toys they can play with. They have many choices of what to do in their free time. Children can play a musical instrument, play a sport, read, draw, write, sing, act or dance. They are so many things we can do to entertain ourselves.

Children also have technology to help them be creative. They can play with friends online and play with people around the world. They can also do school work and homework. Technology helps us to create, problem solve, play games and connect with friends.

Children need to be creative and not say they are bored. We can be creative in our own homes. There are so many things we can do. Science experiments, inventions, making art, writing stories. We can be creative in so many ways. We need to use our imagination and play so we are not bored.

In conclusion children should not be bored. They can be creative, use technology and experiment. There is so much they can do. They have no time to be bored.

Children are bored in 2016 by Stirling

Children today are bored. There are many reasons why we get bored. We have no freedom, are always told we are too young and have to be responsible.

Imagine you are walking back home after a long day at school. You are ready to rush to your video games when your parents fish (drag you) up and and they say chores first. Sometimes they even mess up what you have done so you have to do it again and again. Many children do not get to choose how they spend their time. They cannot watch the TV show they want. Parents take the remote control and change the TV to boring news. Children are told what they can and cannot do. They do not get to choose the things they want to do, can be lonely and get bored.

“You are too Young”. We hear this all the time. When I was young and was at an amusement park I wanted to go on a rollercoaster ride. I had to be tall and they checked my height. I was not the right height so had to go on the rides for little children. I am too young to go on the rides that are scary. I am too young to ride my bike in the street because it is dangerous and I might be hit by a car or get lost. I have to be with an adult not by myself. There are many things I cannot do because I am a child.

Children today have to be responsible. When I walk into the classroom the teacher will say to be responsible, work hard, don’t waste time. If we have extra math we all say Awww Nooo. This is my biggest fear. We all work hard at school and are responsible when our parents take us out. Being responsible all the time is boring.

In conclusion children do get bored because they do not get to decide what they can do. They have chores and instructions from teachers, parents and have to work and be responsible.
