Persuasive writing in Grade 4

The Grade 4 students have been practicing writing Persuasive arguments this week.

We want the students to feel confident when they write a persuasive piece during ISA assessments next week.

• We read the question and make sure we understand the meaning.
• We think of arguments for both sides.
• We decide which argument is stronger or we strongly want to write about.
• We plan using template making sure we have three arguments and evidence.
• We Write for 30-40 minutes.
• The next day we - Read, Edit adding powerful words and check it makes sense.

Homework is a terrible idea by Tasha

I think homework is a horrible idea. I have many reasons why I think it is terrible. It causes stress, makes us lose sleep and is making us unbalanced.

Sometimes people get stressed when they do their homework. We use computers and technology to do our work but can have problems with wifi, getting messages and saving work. Sometimes we do not understand what we have to do. Sometimes we do it but forget to bring it to school and the teacher gets upset. Homework causes a lot of stress.

Homework makes us sleepy. When we come home from school we start working on homework. We can have a lot to do and may work until 10.00pm. We wake at 6.00. This only gives us 8 hours of sleep and people say children need 9-10 hours of sleep each night. Children are tired and arrive at school sleepy and not ready to work.

Homework makes us unbalanced. People do their homework usually until late at night. They are busy working and do not spend time with their family. Children need time to play games and have fun with our friends. We need some time for work but also time for play.

In conclusion, we are not being balanced and getting enough rest. Instead we are always working and stressed. Homework is a bad idea.

I believe we should do homework. There are many reasons why homework is an awesome idea for all kids. Homework helps us to learn, improve and stay balanced.

Improving yourself is a very important thing for your whole life. You should try to get better at working and learning. Homework really helps you to improve. Sometimes you do not understand something or get stuck in school. To help you understand and do it well you need some support. The best support is homework. You can practice at home and then be awesome at school. You can practice at home and build your confidence.

Do you know what I say when other say they hate homework? I keep saying to myself “every good thing begins with one small bit of work”. This means that you have to build your skills, even the small ones. You work often and then you can do harder things as you grow up. Your parents pay money for you to go to school so we can achieve our goals. The work we do at school is not enough. We need to keep working to become skilled and make an awesome future for ourselves. I think everybody wants that. It will be a bit hard and annoying now but better than having a hard life in the future.

Some people say that doing homework makes you unbalanced. It is absolutely your job to keep you life in balance. You need to do a little bit of homework each day. This still leaves lots of time for other things you want to do. You can be flexible with your homework and still have time to do all the things you wish to do. It is your job to plan your time to make you homework fit into your schedule.

Homework is a PERFECT chance to improve and be balanced. We should have homework.
