They then organized their ideas and thought of examples / evidence to back up each statement.
As a class we wrote this persuasive argument. I randomly called on students to contribute and asked other students in the class to expand on their ideas and think of powerful words.
The students can refer to this example when they are structuring their own persuasive writing piece later in the week.
Persuasive writing example - Written by G4 … School uniform
I believe we should not wear school uniform.
There are many reasons why school uniforms are a terrible idea.
They interfere with our rights, are a waste of money and are often inappropriate for school.
We are all individuals. We like to choose our own clothes. We have favorite colors, patterns and styles. Our clothes reflect our culture and our personality. If we all wear exactly the same clothes then we are not showing the world who we are. For example we chose clothes that make us happy, comfortable and beautiful.
School uniforms are very expensive. They are a waste of money. Students often lose items of their school uniform and these need to be replaced. If you only have one school uniform you need to remember to wash it each day straight after school. If you forget you will be stinky at school the next day or will get in trouble for not wearing uniform. We also outgrow our uniforms and need to keep purchasing larger ones. This is very costly to parents.
Sometimes uniforms can be dangerous and inappropriate at school. If we are running or doing gymnastics the uniform may be uncomfortable. It may not fit your body shape and be tight, annoying and embarrassing. This can cause you to feel very stressed.
Some people may say that school uniform is good because it keeps you safe.
I wonder .. Are we really safe? Our uniform tells everyone that we are from ISPP.
ISPP is a very expensive school and strangers may think our families are very rich.
We may actually be at risk of robbery or kidnap.
In conclusion school uniforms are wasteful and dangerous. We do not like uniforms.
