Independent research

Today we looked at a wide range of leaders the students may be interested in researching.
We used a list of leaders with articles on our ISPP Destiny / Britannica site.

The students wrote me a letter explaining which leaders they were interested in and explained why these leaders interested them. They offered 4-5 choices.

While the students were at Art, I randomly selected students names, read their letters and assigned them their first choice. If their first choice was taken I looked at their second option.
Many students have been given their first or second choice.

Below is a list of students and leaders they will be researching next week.
They will start in the computer lab on Monday morning reading the simple text on Brittanica and taking jot notes. Ms Rachel (Library teacher) and I will be supporting the students as they start their independent inquiry.

In the coming week they will continue to read articles, biographies, picture books and watch brain pop clips about their chosen leader, while taking jot notes of the important information.
