Response to visual art

We looked at a picture by Salvador Dali this morning.
The students thought about why he created this painting, what his motivation might be, how it made them feel and why. whether they liked it.

This is an example of what the students will be doing in their homework this week.

Some of their responses to Salvador Dali's work  ...

  • He painted pictures that do not make sense
  • They are un- real (Ms Alison mentioned 'Surrealism'
  • He is trying to provoke a reaction
  • He has a message - maybe harming nature, things can be beautiful and wron
It makes me feel  ....
  • inspired
  • confused
  • interested
  • at peace
  • too odd
  • unusual
  • upset - he is ruining the butterflies
  • like an attack of large butterflies
This is similar to what the students will do at home this week.
They will select a piece of visual art they want to respond to and also ask a member of their family for their opinion and compare..
They are aware there is no 'correct' answer but they do need to back up feelings and ideas with an explanation 'why'.
