Reading
  • Read a book of your choice for 20+ minutes each day at home.
  • Try to do this on the weekend and holidays.
Superman, Hero, Man, Person,
Belief Systems: Personal Heroes
  • Start by thinking on your own about three people who are your personal heroes.
  • Share your choices by writing a paragraph about them, saying what you admire (look up to)  in those people.

Answer the following questions:
  • What is it that makes us appreciate some heroes rather than others?
  • Do you think your heroes are universal (understood as heroes by everyone) ? Why or why not?
  • How do our thoughts about who we admire affect how we act and behave. Do these qualities become our values (what we live by)?

Math - Cambodia in Big Numbers
We have been talking a lot recently about action and what we can do to help others here in Cambodia.

  • Research issues in Cambodia such as environmental issues such as water, or other health issues such as disease, or perhaps animals in danger etc
  • Find a quote that fits with the issue that mentions a number, so that you have to consider place value and writing the number accurately in digits, words, stating the relevant place value, as well as stating the total value.
            Example:
  • Number in Digits: 33,866
  • Number in words: thirty-three thousand, eight hundred sixty-six
  • Place: ten thousands, thousands, hundreds, tens, ones.
  • Total Value: 30,000; 3,000; 800; 60; 6
  • 3. Do a quick reflection in a sentence or two to explain what you learnt.

Try to find three or four numbers to work with and present this as a presentation document of your choice.

Unit - The way we act
  • Our third line of inquiry asks you to think about how values and beliefs influence the way we act.
  • Imagine you’re going to invite a friend over for a playdate and a meal who is Christian, Catholic, Hindu, Jewish or Buddhist. Or another religion different from your own.
  • What might you do to accommodate this person's religious beliefs?
  • Plan out the playdate and meal you will prepare.
  • Remember you want to promote that you’re open-minded, caring and appreciate your friend.
  • You might like to include some questions you might like to ask your friend.

Oral presentation
  • On Friday you will share two of your personal heroes and your Big numbers with the class.
