They worked in small groups and physically set up each number with manipulatives.
They added up the units in the ones column.
They worked out what to do if there are too many units and moved the groups of ten to the next column.
Most students reflected that this helped them understand what the multiplication question was asking them to do.
We will continue to use place value tomorrow to understand numbers and multiply.
