Measurement activities

Today the students applied their understanding of measurement.

They estimated and then measured a variety of objects.
Initially some of the estimates were way off but by the end of the activity most students could approximate the weight of an object by picking it up.

The Grade 5 students worked in groups to find out how much water can fit in containers of different sizes. The students used different measuring utensils to help them solve the problem. It was messy but they did find accurate answers for all containers.

After we shared results the students tried to work out an easier way to find the same answer.
I hope this helps them with the swimming pool task in their homework. I certainly do not expect them to empty a swimming pool.
