Guest speaker - Smateria
Today the students met Lisa's mother - one of the owners of Smateria.
Smateria is a self financed social enterprise in Cambodia.
It started in 2006 at the St 57 shop with 5 employees. It now has 5 shops in Cambodia, 120 employees and sells its products in 15 countries in the world.
80% of the employees are young women who are encouraged to bring their children to work. Smateria pay for child care and also have a small school on the third floor of their business for the children of employees.
The students asked questions about how it all started, challenges of owning a business, how they design and create products and set prices. They also discussed business plans and financial factors involved in owning your own business.
