Personal reading
Read for a minimum of 20 minutes each day and record your reading in your reading log.
Try to finish a chapter book this week to contribute to the class reading challenge. So far we have read 46 books.

Writing - Book review
When you finish a chapter book please complete a book review (template is in the classroom) this week.
The book you review should be a chapter book and at your reading level. Not too easy, not too difficult.

Last week we visited 3 businesses in Phnom Penh.
You have started creating blog posts sharing what you learned and enjoyed at each business. Edit and complete these post. Make sure you include 2 paragraphs in each post. Have you added facts, personal response, web links and pictures in your reflection?

Brainstorm ideas
In the final weeks of this unit we will be creating small businesses in the classroom.
Each business will think of two products they can design, create and sell to customers to make profit.
This week start thinking about ideas of products you could design and create.
On Friday you will reflect and share your ideas in your journals. Please have lots of ideas ready to share.

Fraction Word problems  - Use pictures and equations to try to solve


1. Jackie has 1/3 of a Hershey bar. Steven has 4/12 of a Hershey bar. How much do they have together?
(Hint - Can you simplify 4/12?)
2. You give 1/3 of a pan of brownies to Susan and 1/6 of the pan of brownies to Patrick. How much of the pan of brownies did you have left?
(Hint - ⅓ is the same as ?/6)
3. A school wants to make a new playground by cleaning up an abandoned lot that is shaped like a rectangle. They give the job of planning the playground to a group of students. The students decide to use 1/4 of the playground for a basketball court and 3/8 of the playground for a soccer field. How much is left for the swings and play equipment?
(Hint ¼ is the same as ?/8)


4. Five friends buy a package of 20 cookies and want to share them equally. Each friend will get 1/5 of the cookies. How much will each friend get?
(Hint ⅕ is the same as /20)
5. A baker is making cakes for a big party. She uses 1/4 cup of oil for each cake. How many cakes can she make if she has a bottle of oil that has 6 cups in it?
(Hint how many ¼ cups are there in 6 cups?)
