Debating about effects of Megastores

This week we watched a documentary about Walmart and how big superstores can affect communities and other businesses.

We thought of all the arguments in favor of superstores and and against superstores and had a debate.
Do Walmart and Superstores improve our lives?

The students worked in groups coming up with arguments and a new batch of students presented these ideas in a debate.

Thank you to Monyroat, Calidina, Beaunita and Phalina for arguing that Superstores improve our lives.

  • Low prices which helps consumers
  • Employ lots of staff so help employment
  • Easy and convenient - all products under the same roof
  • Positive trade with countries around the world - imports and exports
Thank you also to Kim Chhoung, Mony, Keith and Angelica for arguing that Superstores do not improve our lives.
  • They hurt small business and many people lose their jobs
  • They take advantage of workers in developing countries and make lives worse
  • They bully producers and manufacturers, only paying a small price for products and making them go broke
  • They only think about 'cheap' and the quality of products is decreasing.
