new class read - City of Ember

We started reading our new class read today.
City of Ember by Jeanne Duprau.

So far we have read the prelude 'The Instructions' and have met three of the main characters.
Lina Mayfllet, Doon Harrow and Mayor Cole.

241 years after Ember is established the city's supplies are in danger of exhaustion. The Generator is in decay and there are frequent blackouts. The only light source is the street lamps. When the street lamps are not working the city is in complete darkness.

12 year old Lina has finished school and is about to start work as a 'Messenger'. Doon was in Lina's class. He is about to start work as a Pipeworks Laborer. He wants to work underground and has ideas for how he can repair the generator and save Ember.
